All babies are different but we have found that the earlier your baby is
introduced to the babocush, the better, which is why we recommend this
product for newborns who have been used to the sounds and comforts of
the womb. With the unique mattress position, your baby should settle
easily. For best results, turn on the vibration before placing your baby
on the babocush and if attached to a bouncer or rocker, it may help if
you also gently rock your baby for a few moments to help them settle.
The babocush can be attached to your bouncer or rocker up until your
baby is 3 months old or 14 pounds / 6.4 kilos. After this it can be used
on a non-slip floor surface up until your baby is 6 months old or 21
pounds / 9.5 kilos, although after 3 months, your baby will look rather
large on the babocush. The sooner your baby uses the babocush the more
they’ll love it.
Please note, the babocush was safety tested on babies up to 3 months
old at the time of manufacture, however, since our launch date a lot of
customers got in touch to ask if they could continue to use the babocush
for their babies after 3 months. Due to the high number of enquiries
about this, we had safety testing carried out for babies up to 6 months
old and since that time, it has now been certified safe for babies aged
Babocush are proud sponsors of TinyLife, the premature baby charity for Northern Ireland. TinyLife
are actively promoting the babocush to all their parents of premature
babies. The babocush is loved by premature babies who tend to suffer
particularly badly with reflux and colic. It is also great for twins and
multiple births – you can place your baby on the babocush right after
feeding and it will take care of your baby’s wind so you don’t have to,
meaning you can tend to the next baby straight away.
The babocush does not include a baby chair or rocker. It is a shaped
foam mattress with a mattress cover, soft outer cover, 5 point harness,
vibration with heartbeat device and has 2 strong straps to secure to
your own baby chair or rocker, measuring no less than 650mm long by
400mm wide. The babocush measures 650mm long x 400mm wide x 175mm deep.
Do not let your baby sleep on the Babocush. Sleeping
on their front can pose a suffocation risk and is thought to increase
the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), according to the NHS
Guidelines on SIDS. The babocush is intended to provide relief from
colic and reflux, to help settle fractious babies and to provide tummy
time in order to prevent flat-head syndrome and other associated
problems. Never ever leave your baby unattended on the babocush. You
will find your baby will be so content on the babocush that they may
fall asleep. If this happens, please place your baby in their cot or
crib to sleep.
If you’re feeling frazzled and worn out, the babocush can give you a
short break to spend one on one time with the other children, eat dinner
with both hands, drink a coffee while it’s still hot, go to the toilet
or have a shower etc. (your baby can rest happily on the babocush in the
room with you).
The babocush gives your baby tummy time in a very natural, comfortable
position and as long as the safety instructions are carefully followed,
your baby can stay on it for as long as they are comfortable to do so.
Never leave your baby unattended when on the babocush and always ensure
the head is facing to the side.
A number of standards were researched to see if there were any appropriate test methods but none were deemed to be suitable. A draft standards method currently under development was used to test the Babocush. This draft standard is called DRA AS/NZS 8811.1 Methods of testing infants products, part 1. Sleep surfaces- test or firmness. 2012.
The method and results can be found below.
Australian draft standard test method
This new draft standard is being developed to assess how much a childs mattress sinks when the weight is placed on top. This allows us to assess the suffocation risk of a product. If, after 10 minutes, the mattress sinks enough for the metal to touch the mattress, this would be deemed unsafe.
Although only a draft standard, it was felt appropriate to test this on the Babocush. After 15 minutes, there was no obvious movement or sinking. The foam was therefore not felt to pose any serious suffocation risk due to sinking.
It is considered that the Babocush by Kerrikids is suitable for the babies up to 6 months old and is fit for purpose to be used as an aid to calm babies. However, babies should not be left unattended at any point and should not be allowed to sleep on the cushion. The cushion can be used flat on the floor for children up to 6 months, but should not be used on a rocker after 3 months.
There were no serious stability or durability issues found during the assessment. The babocush has been fully safety tested and is compliant with British, European and USA safety standards and regulations including the California Prop 65 standard
